Project Overview

  • Role and Duration

ROLE: Visual Designer, Interaction Designer, UX Researcher

    DURATION: March 2022 (4 Months)

  • Project Vision

The goal of this project was to improve the user experience on the donation page of Zeldathon.com. The older donation page was more plain, difficult for some to navigate, and did not provide a clear path for users to donate for certain incentives. Our team focused on revising the user flow for the donation page to make it easier for users to donate and to provide a more intuitive experience.

  • Project Goals

    1. Make the donation page easier to navigate and understand.

    2. Provide a clear path for users to donate normally and with incentives.

    3. Make the donation process more interactive, fun, and intuitive.

  • Deliverables

    1. A revised user flow for the donation page.

    2. Updated page design and layout.

    3. Updated visuals and graphics.

    4. A testing plan to ensure the revised user flow is effective.

  • Key Questions

    1. What is your current gaming experience with donating during marathons like?

    2. What challenges do you face when donating?

    3. How can the problems that occur when donating be fixed?

Survey Quotes

From our surveys, we gathered that users that were more experienced with using the layout had very little issues with it. However, some of the issues that we did see included the donation process being too long, and it required too much scrolling. They also found that some incentives and add-ons were not clearly visible or well explained. Explanations could be more useful to viewers that were new to the donation process.

The User

I created one persona based on the information received from my interviews. The persona was created to represent the person that we’ve received a lot of our information from, which were donators that attended Zeldathon events frequently.

Competitive Analysis

Looking at other donation platforms, such as Tiltify and Streamlabs Charity, both were very simple to use and included no incentives or donation add-ons aside from a donation message. One platform accepted credit cards and PayPal while the other only accepted credit cards.

Journey Maps and Story Boards

I then created a journey map and storyboards for the persona.

Prototype

Our team created two prototypes to present for user testing. One prototype placed each step of the donation process on a new page while the other version was set on a single page.

Accessibility

We conducted 5 user testing sessions, and we concluded that most users preferred the prototype that placed the different steps of the donation process on different pages. They mentioned that it felt less cluttered and not as overwhelming.

Final Design and Release

After receiving feedback from our user testing, a new prototype was created that reflected the donators’ concerns and was a combination of the efforts of both members of the UX Design team. The new donation flow received maybe compliments and aided in the success of Zeldathon Daybreak, where we raised a total of $125,800 .

The donation page is only made available during marathons and “Side Quests” on the
Zeldathon website on the “Donation” page. However, I have posted a link to the final design below.
